At Global Hosts we want to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible with your host family.
In Britain, each home has different house or family rules. If you think about your own country, often your family's rules are different from your friends' family rules, aren't they?
Asking these questions will help you be clearer on what is and is not acceptable in your home stay provider's house.
Can I use your telephone with a pre paid card? (If you are staying in the UK for a long time it is advisable to buy a mobile phone)
What time will the meals be ready?
What happens if I am late for dinner? (Out of politeness you should ring them as soon as you are aware you are going to be late for dinner or are not going to be home for your dinner at all)
Am I allowed to bring friends to my room? (Some families allow this all the time, others only allow it when they are going to be at home)
How often and on which days am I allowed to do my washing?
Do I use the machine to wash my clothes myself?
What is the earliest or latest time someone can call me at home? (Some parents and family of guests forget we have a time difference and ring much to early or late when people are still sleeping)
When is it best to use the bath or shower and how long is it OK to have a bath or shower?
Is there room for me to keep my toiletries in the bathroom?
Can I make a cup of tea when I want to? (Most families allow this except if you have booked on a room only basis)
How late is it OK to watch TV?
Is it better if I study in my bedroom?
Are there any other house or family rules I should know about?
